Dawson's Miracle #, oh heck, we can't count that high!!

Hey everyone! Most of you know that for the last 3 weeks we have been at Primary Children's Hospital with Dawson. He had a pretty aggressive staph infection in his brain, from his last shunt surgery. Our sweet boy has been lying in his hospital bed with an external shunt, hooked to all the monitors and getting plenty of antibiotics.

When Dawson was still in the NICU he had NEC (Necrotizing Entero Colitis), this is where some of this bowel died and they had to cut some of it out. This made his bowels very fragile, so when it came time to place a shunt, the most favorable option, having the shunt drain into the abdominal cavity, was not an option for us. His shunt was placed into his heart. This makes it so that the shunt has to be replaced a lot more often than we like, and the risk of infection of both the heart and the shunt through the roof. He has had Spinal Meningitis 3 times, and Staph 2 times!! YIKES!!

With this infection, Dr Walker, Dawson's NeuroSurgeon, decided to open up his tummy, have a look around and see if his bowels have healed enough to put it in. Some of the Resident Surgeons and nurses were not very optimistic. Dr. Walker was even a bit unsure, but we had to try!

Dawson went into surgery yesterday to have the shunt placed. Many of you fasted with us, we KNOW the power of Fasting and Prayer!! I am pleased to report that after 3 long weeks, almost losing Dawson from a bad reaction to a drug last week, and brain surgery #24, our little Dawson now has a shunt that drains into his tummy!! WHAT A BLESSING!!! Dr. Walker said it went in so slick, and that he was amazed by how good Dawson's bowels have healed. He doesn't think there will be any problems with it!

We will be in the hospital a few more days to make sure there isn't any more infection, then we will be headed home, with a shunt that might NEVER need to be replaced again!! YAY!!!

We are so thankful for all of your support! We have the greatest family and friends ever! We, through this experience, have also learned a tremendous lesson in faith! We KNOW the Lord hears and answers prayer. We also know that Dawson is a great blessing from the Lord. He is an amazing little boy and we are humbled to have the opportunity to be his parents! We are so grateful for all of our experience over the last 20 min. our hearts have been sealed to the Lord through this process! We are SO BLESSED!!

Thank you for the e-mail update. What a wonder boy! It helps to hear great things about him with all that he has gone through. Makes all other problems seem more miniscule.
