Jake is 10! Can you believe it?! When did I get old enough to have a 10 year old! I still feel like I should require parental supervision from time to time! :)
Jake's bday was on a Sunday this year. On Saturday we headed to Twin Falls to do whatever he wanted to do. We had lunch at Golden Corral, went bowling and wondered around "Save Money, Live Better Walmart" (as Mallory puts it), until we found the perfect gift. "How to Train your Dragon for DS and a few Bakugans. We had a blast.
On Sunday we headed to church and then it was Jake's day to do whatever he wanted. He thought it was awesome that he could just choose to spend the whole day playing his DS without a word from Mom or Dad!
What Jake didn't know was that I had a surprise party for him and his friends planned for Tuesday after school.
Jake usually gets off the bus at 3:05. My friend Michelle picked up Jake's best friend Carson, Drew & Hunter and brough them to our house.
Jasmine & Noah showed up and the stage was set! 10 minutes to go. Nevermind the "Happy Anniversary" sign. SERIOUSLY! I saw Happy and thought birthday! Oh well! Jake thought it was funny!
Jake told me that if he could pick any cake in the world it would have him standing up out of it with a word bubble that said, "Can you believe I am already 10". WHO IS THIS KID?! Hahaha! Well, I aimed to please and please I did. We laughed everytime we saw this darn thing! So did Jake!
Jake showed up and was completely surprised or should I say STUNNED when his friends jumped out! I laughed so hard! They started singing happy birthday and ended up just jumping in circles excited!
We recently listened to Harry Potter 1-5 on CD. Jake loved them. So the boys cozied up and watched #4 while snacking on licorice, popcorn & whopper.
Then, thanks to the inspiration and instruction from my friend Maren, the boys made their own magic wands out of paper and hot glue....they feel like they are made of wood and they are simply the coolest things EVER!
There was shoutings of "Explosia" & any other made up word they could think of. All of the designs were picked and made by the boys.
Even Mallory had her own wand! Complete with a flower design on it!
Then it was on to the hot tub.
For a whole lot of craziness!
Afterwards Ryan made pizza, garlic bread & gave the boys miniature Sprites to drink.
And of course CUPCAKES!
Then as we drove the boys home they rocked out in the back seat to a very loud "Eye of the Tiger", "We Will Rock You" and "Banana Boat Song", while singing at the top of their lungs.
It was a long party, but the boys had an absolute blast! So did I, to be honest! :)
Now, if you want to WOW your kids and make a SUPER easy and WAY fun project, there is a tutorial on how to make these today on my other blog: www.yourlifeuncommon.com
