So Ryan and I have talked about how glad we are that I was an EMT before all of this craziness. We found another reason to be thankful for that experience. I may have already mentioned this, but I am WAY too tired to go back and read through to see if I have, so I will just tell you that just before we had to run to Utah this last time, I was trying to find ways to help Dawson gain weight. We tried out peanut butter, and with just the smallest little smear on his tongue, this is what we got. YIKES!! Within just seconds he started sneezing constantly, his nose was running, then when he became obvious that he was having a hard time with his breathing I gave him some Benedryl and watched him very closely.
It took about 20 minutes for him to breathe normally again. I called his doctor and let them know what was going on. Then his face and lips began to swell, and he broke out in hives. We watched him really closely and eventually he returned to normal. However, the next morning he still had a ton of hives. The doctor said that his allergy is severe. GREAT!!
We now have to make an appointment to see an allergy specialist in Boise. They will also be testing him to see what high calorie foods he will be able to eat. Poor kid!
