Isn't it great to see those big bright brown eyes? What a cute and sweet boy!
The update on Mr. Dawson Doo: Well, we are 2 weeks out from his last shunt surgery. On Friday we had a little bit of a scare because he suddenly spiked a fever. It was only up to 99.0 then it climbed quickly to 99.6. Ryan and I couldn't help but hold our breaths on this one. This is a sign of a shunt infection (spinal menengitis) that means hospital for a minimum of 3-4 weeks. It also means more possible damage to our little boy. Needless to say, we were a little worried.
On Saturday he seemed to do alright for half of the day. The Neuro Surgeon that was on call the night before told us to stay pretty close to a hospital, just in case. If his temp jumped above 101.5 we needed to get to the hospital.
We stayed home most of the day. He seemed to be doing pretty ok until about 5 pm. He then spiked another fever of 100.9. I called the hospital in Twin our doctor was not there, which makes things a little difficult, but luckily, Dr. Jones (Courtney's favorite Dr.) was on call. He has actually seen Dawson 2 times for skin stuff. He is a great Dr. and works closely with Dr. Scott. He has kept pretty close tabs on us over the last couple of days. After giving him some Tylenol his temp went down again, GOOD! He slept good, but seemed very lethargic in the morning. Not to mention, a bloody nose? I don't know where that came from. Anyway, he was tired but doing fine. We went to church. While I was holding him in Relief Society, and just in the last 15 min of church, he spiked again. We ran home. When we took his temp he was at about 101.3. We gave him Tylenol again and watched him close over the next hour. We gave it to him and within 15 min he went up to 101.7. We continued to watch him. Finally about an hour later he dropped. Never getting lower than 99.6.
One thing that I really like about Dr. Jones is that he is a man of Faith. He asks me "what are your feelings" and stuff like that. We are relying heavily upon that right now. I can tell you that I don't really feel that this is in his shunt. He is not really acting like it is. He isn't having seizures or throwing up. However, I also don't know if it is now just a blood infection. If it is, the shunt comes out.
We will just continue to pray for him like crazy and let you all know how it goes. I am hoping that a good antibiotic will help! We are going to Utah on Tuesday morning. So hopefully if there is anything that needs to be done, it will be while we are down there anyway.
By the way, Mallory will be having her eye surgery on Friday. I don't know why, but Ryan and I are a bit nervous about it. We will be fasting for her and her doctors that day. If you would like to join us, we would appreciate that so much!!
Your prayers have been and always are appreciated!
