When Dawson was discharged, they told us that it was still possible that he would need a shunt, but they might not be able to tell for 2 or 3 months. They figured it didn't make any sense to keep him there for 2 or 3 months just so they could watch and see if he ended up needing a shunt, so we took him home. Well, it only took a week or two, and Dawson obviously needs the shunt now. His head has grown 2 centimeters in the last 3 days, which is a lot, and he has been showing all the symptoms of neurological stress--sleeping alot, fussy from headaches, his fontanelle(sp?) is getting more firm, and on the way to the hospital today to get checked out, he puked about 6 gallons of vomit. I know--I measured it. Okay, not really. Actually, I wasn't even there, but I heard about it. Anyway, his doctor in Twin was concerned enough to have Dawson and Mom life-flighted(come on, is that really even a word??) to Primary Childrens. All this was just in time for me to duck out of a work trip that would have put me in Vegas for the next 3 days. Things would have been much more difficult if this would have happened tomorrow morning, when I would have been on a plane. Oh well, all is well that ends well I guess. So, where was I--oh yeah, Mom and Dawson have arrived safely in Utah, and they are awaiting the decision to either do the surgery tonight, or wait until the morning. After the shunt is put in, assuming all goes well(and why wouldn't it???), he will probably have 2 or 3 days or recovery, and then Mom will have to figure out a way to get them both home. So that's the scoop. We kinda figured this would probably come, but we didn't expect it so soon. I guess the ray of light in all of this is that the ward is still bringing us dinners, so Jake, Mallory, and I won't starve while Mom is living in the lap of luxury at Primary Childrens Executive Club. I know...it's late. I'll keep you posted as I get more info. Thanks again for all the support and prayers.
Ryan
