Quite a miracle!

Well, again I am sorry that I made you all wait for so long. I have had about 2 seconds of spare time today.

Mallory's sugery was scheduled for 11:30 this morning. It kept getting pushed back, but they finally called and told us they were ready for Mal's surgery at about 12:45. The Air Med team came to get Mallory and I was walking over with them. All night last night and all of this morning I have had so much anxiety. I just didn't feel like this was right. I did not want this surgery today. However, we had prayed and this was what came. So I trusted the Lord.

When we arrived in surgery Dr. Walker, who is one of the top 5 surgeons in the world, or something like that, came and introduced himself to me. He asked if this was Mallory then reached down and put his hand on her head. There is a soft spot on the top of babies heads, this is what we use as a gauge for the pressure in their heads from the excess fluid in the ventricles. When it is full it gets tight and hard, when it is soft that is really good. When Dr. Walker put his hand on her head he felt her soft spot and told us that the spot was really soft. He looked at another one of doctors and asked him why they were doing this surgery. He said that the CT scan showed that her ventricles were enlarged, which they have been for awhile and they will return to their proper size. After a moment Dr. Walker turned to me and said, "there is no way that I am going to put a shunt in this baby today." I couldn't believe it! He said that he thought that Mallory was capable of overcoming this on her own and he is not going to do anything like a shunt that will last for the rest of her life without seeing how she acts with a full soft spot and giving her everychance to overcome this on her own. He told us to take her back to the U and told me to go feed my baby (she hadn't been fed since 5am). He said that each day he would come and check on her and would let us know if and when she would need a shunt. What a miracle!

The other part of this is Mallory has consistently needed to be tapped every other day because of the pressure in her head. Today was the day that she should have been tapped, but she did not have any pressure and seemed to be doing really well. We will continue to watch her. Thank you all for your prayers and fasting. We continue to be shown the hand of the Lord and the power of the priesthood. I am so grateful for a Father in Heaven that hears and answers my prayers!

Dawson continues to move right along. He tried to take is whopping 4 MLs by bottle today. He got a little bit, but the position he was in was hurting his incision. He is healing quickly and is actually finally putting up a fight. The nurses and especially the IV team tell me how strong he is, and he has found his voice. When someone even thinks about poking him with a needle he screams at them and puts up a big fight. He is tired of all of this I am sure! We will take him home so soon and he will be free from all of them!

Well, I am headed to bed. I am beat! I will definately post some pictures tomorrow.

Love you all!
Amy
