Back at it!

Sweet picture of Dawson asleep before they discovered that he wasn't feeling very good. Poor little sweetheart!

Well, today was kind of a rough one for me. I can't even explain the anguish I go through when I have to leave home. I hate it. I feel so torn it is just kind of the pits. I am ready to go home with the babies and be done with all of this.

When I finally pulled myself together today and came to Utah I was really glad I had decided to come. First Mallory nursed perfectly. She was actually excited that I was there. When she heard my voice she popped her little eyes open and got all excited and wanted me to pick her up. It was just what I needed.

Next I went to Dawson. They started feeding him today. However, after about his 3rd or 4th feeding he started having residuals (undigested food in his stomache) that were bigger than the feeding he had recieved. This indicated maybe a back up. Hopefully not another block. They gave him 2 feedings off then tried again and he was doing well when I was there.

Just before I left for the night I had a feeling I should change his ostomy bag. They said that it had been on for 2 days and was still doing great. We usually just leave it as long as it will stay. They were also changing shifts and they kick all of the moms out at 6:45 pm for an hour. It was 6:45 but I told them I needed to stay and change the bag really quick. I am usually the one they want to change it, because I am usually the only one that can make it really stick. I started to remove the bag. When I pulled it off I found that Dawson's stoma had gone back into his tummy. I kinda flipped. They are supposed to watch for this because if it goes inside he poops inside of his tummy and it causes all sorts of infection. The nurse on today said that she didn't really pay attention and she didn't yesterday when she had him either. We went to get the NeoNatal Nurse. She came in and saw that it had been like this long enough that the skin was starting to grow together over the top of it. The surgeons were called over from PCMC to take a look. They said that they want him transfered back over to PCMC tomorrow morning and he is scheduled to have a surgery to have them go in and check the damage if any on Sunday. If they look at him and see that he should be fine to have the "putting him back together" surgery done they will do it at that time. That would be the best. If they could do that then he will not have to have another surgery in 2 more weeks.

This is to me yet another way that the Lord is showing all of us that this is in His hands and will be done on His timing, not the hospitals. I am so glad that I had the feeling today to get myself together and get down here and then to change his bag before I left. Dawson will get through this, I know he will. He will need a little extra help from our prayers and faith as he is just getting over being quite sick and still does not have all of the strength they would like him to have before performing this surgery. Please send as many prayers as you can his way.

I will update you tomorrow as soon as they move him over to PCMC and let you all know what the plan is. I am headed to bed so I can be well rested for the big day ahead of us tomorrow.

Love you all,

Amy
